Translated words that miss the mark

"Our family was so excited as grandmother kissed us each goodbye before she passed away." Although excited is one translation of מתרגש there are other translations which are much more appropriate here.

"The tsunami in 2017 influenced thousands of residents." Again, a different translation is required here or it doesn't make sense.

Idioms

Most writers occasionally use idiomatic phrases in their writing and there's nothing wrong with that. However, non-native English writers may try to translate those phrases word for word, which frequently doesn't work.

"When I asked Rina how the pizza was at the new Italian place on our street, she told me it was on the face. Then I wondered, don't they have napkins?"

If or When (conditionals)

There are four main conditional forms. Do you know them? You'd better make sure you do, before you try to use them.

1. When you don't use a second language regularly, you forget a lot of the rules.
   
2. If you ask me to help you with your project, I will give you excellent results.
   
3. If you had a million dollars, would you travel around the world, instead of working?
   
4. If you had learned English as a young child, who had grown up in Great Britain, you could have written in English as your mother tongue.
